Today I decided to search for a good dark mode plugin for WordPress because the screen is so bright and if I’m looking at a bright screen too long I’ll get a horrible headache that could last for days, and that would really cramp my goals.
I looked at a few different options, all of which have a free version and a paid version, and I settled on a plugin called WP Dark Mode. In all honesty, the biggest selling point to this particular plugin was that it was the only one recently updated that also said it was compatible with the current version of WordPress.
I was mostly looking for a plugin that would allow me to dark mode both the backend (where I work all day) as well as the front end, for your benefit. And the plugin had to have a toggle to allow you to choose which version you wanted to see. Lastly, the dark mode had to use soft colors. I really have no idea who thinks that bright white and red on a black background is better, but it isn’t. The ability to change the colors myself would have been nice (which you can do with the paid version), however, I didn’t want to have to do that right away as I’m working exclusively on content right now, not design. I needed this plugin to just work and WP Dark Mode works.
Pros:
Cons:
Paid Perks:
Looking at the paid and free differences, I don’t think I’ll ever pay for this plugin. I don’t feel that the price of the plugin reflects on the benefits. There’s no unlimited site option, which is a bummer because I manage a huge chunk of sites, so I would say that factor alone is a deal-breaker.
Update: I did try the paid version of this plugin and enjoyed it at first, however, it no longer works and breaks my site so it is now disabled.
One day I will probably look for a better solution, but for my purposes right now the free version of this plugin is good enough.
Do you use a Dark Mode plugin you love that I should try out? Comment below and tell me about it, along with the specific search name for it on the plugin repository.
